Sep. 5--Three major cement manufacturers have sought permission to raise the retail prices for mixed and Portland cement by nearly 10 percent .
The companies want to charge 2,150 baht a ton for mixed cement, up from 1,958 baht at present, and 2,532 baht for Portland cement, compared with 2,294 baht.
Siam Cement, Siam City Cement and Asia Cement cited higher production costs due to rising fuel prices and exchange-rate changes.
The Internal Trade Department would consider the request carefully because the factors cited by the companies were likely to have less effect on production costs at present as the baht was improving, said Phisit Settawong, the department's director-general.
