Sep. 5--GRAMMY STARS JOIN ANTI-PIRACY BLITZ: Recording stars and executives of Grammy Entertainment Plc will stage a three-day nationwide blitz against music piracy from Friday to Sunday.
About 800 people affiliated with the country's largest music firm will visit tape and CD vendors and talk to consumers in Bangkok and upcountry about the virtues of copyrighted goods.
Grammy last month cut its CD prices to 155 baht from 290 in a bid to narrow the price gap between pirated and legitimate products. It said its CD sales had risen by 250 percent since the price cut.
"The campaign aims to encourage people to stop buying pirated products and also helps the government in curbing piracy," said Apirak Kosayodhin, the Grammy president and CEO.
CP ORANGE FIRM ON YEAR-END LAUNCH: CP Orange, the mobile phone arm of the Charoen Pokphand Group, will launch post-paid and pre-paid mobile phone services by the end of the year, according to Paradai Theerathada, corporate affairs manager.
He said CP Orange would focus its marketing on Greater Bangkok first, before expanding to the provinces. Its network is now being built by Alcatel.
CP Orange plans to use Jay Mart, the country's largest mobile phone distributor, as well as CP Group distribution channels such as 7-Eleven convenience stores and TelecomAsia service centres.
