Sep. 5--Bangkok Bank first reported potentially illegal fund transfers related to a massive money-laundering scheme to central bank regulators more than one year ago, according to bank chairman Chatri Sophonpanich.
He said the bank executive who had overseen the transactions had already resigned from the bank more than one year ago.
"As far as we know, the name of this employee is written down in the fund transfer documents but, so far, there is no clear evidence whether this person had committed any illegal activities," Mr Chatri said.
He said the bank was ready to co-operate fully with police investigators in the case.
On Friday, the police arrested Sirinra Mahamad, an employee of UOB Radanasin Bank, in connection with what is believed to be a money-laundering operation related to illegal oil smuggling.
The Bank of Thailand said that from 1998 to 2000, about 7.5 billion baht in funds were transferred out of the country through three companies using fake credit documentation.
Most of the transactions were made by Ratanakosin International, Thanasap Thavee and Eastern Petropower, through Bangkok Bank.
