Sep. 2--Big Echo, a household name in karaoke services in Japan, is breaking new ground in Thailand's sing-along entertainment world by offering what it calls more family-oriented services.
The success of its first establishment that opened in Bangkok two weeks ago has prompted Saha Daiichi Kosho, a joint venture owned partly by Big Echo parent Daiichi Kosho and the Saha Group of Thailand, to announce a 250-million-baht investment to open five new outlets in Bangkok over the next three years.
The first Big Echo is in the Kian Gwan building on Wireless Road and has attracted some 2,000 clients including housewives, family groups and students seeking an alternative form of karaoke entertainment.
Aside from establishing its own outlets, Saha Daiichi Kosho plans to sell franchises in the next six months under terms that have yet to be announced.
Big Echo runs from 11 am to 1 am daily, with 40 rooms and more than 20,000 multinational songs, according to Tanongchai Chongpiyawarang, the deputy managing director of Saha Daiichi Kosho.
According to a survey by the company, there are 925 karaoke bars in Bangkok. Despite the high number of outlets, the company believes there is more room in the market.
