Sep. 2--No question, the traditional gift of cash or gift cheque remains the most popular option for those stumped by what to give newly-weds. Yet with more couples leaving their family homes to live in apartments or condominiums, it's becoming more popular to give home appliances, kitchenware and furnishings as a wedding gift.
Yet as any new couple can attest, receiving four or five blenders or coffeemakers from well-intentioned guests can present its own problems.
Enter Central Department Store's new gift registry service, aimed at helping guests pick out unique gifts matching the needs of couples.
Surangrat Chirathivat, direct marketing director for Central Department Store, said the new service also helped cater to today's more demanding consumers.
Customers demanded maximum utility and quality and the best prices, she said.
"Marketing has to be increasingly focused on each segment's needs. To support sales, you need to use a new strategy that emphasises value," Mrs Surangrat said.
