Sep. 2--GEMS AND JEWELLERY EXPORTS RISE 30.3 PERCENT: Exports of gems and jewellery in the first seven months of this year were worth 44.6 billion baht, an increase of 30.3 percent over the same period last year despite the economic slowdown.
In their attempt to make Thailand the gem and jewellery centre of Asia, the Export Promotion Department and the Thai Gem and Jewellery Traders' Association will hold the 28th Bangkok Gems and Jewellery Fair at the Impact Exhibition Centre at Muang Thong Thani from Sept 13-16.
The highlight of the event would be an "Ancient Thai Night" theme event on Sept 14, organisers said yesterday.
About 10,000 trade visitors from around the world are expected to attend the fair, with resulting orders forecast at 10 billion baht.
The annual fair is one of the world's five largest for gems and jewellery.
