Sep. 3--Thailand can expect to raise oil production by at least 10,000 barrels a day next year, with the increase coming from an offshore field that is being revived after being shut down four years ago because of technical problems.
Revival of crude oil production from the Nang Nuan oil field now looks certain following the recent successful re-entry of the Nang Nuan B01 well, which is in about 30 metres of water off the coast of Chumphon in the Gulf of Thailand. The well flowed a combined rate of about 7,500 barrels per day (b/d) of light crude oil in a recent test.
The drilling result of the well, sunk to a total of depth of 3,800 metres, would "definitely" lead to the redevelopment of the single-well Nang Nuan field, said a senior executive of Thai Shell Exploration & Production Co. The company is mapping out a development plan for Nang Nuan, which is expected to be finalised by the end of this year.
