Sep. 3--Lower monthly fees and airtime charges are needed to help the PCT service compete with cellular phone services for which prices have been plunging, according to Asia Wireless Communication Co, the PCT marketer.
The company was seeking permission from the Telephone Organisation of Thailand to reduce its charges in order to remain competitive, said Saharat Kanongsilp, AWC's vice-president for marketing.
Mobile phone operators pay a position of their revenue based on actual charges, excluding promotional costs. As well, they can adjust monthly fees and airtime charges without advance permission from government agencies.
The TOT had earlier told AWC to revoke its 200-baht monthly fee, arguing that the PCT (personal communication telephone) was a value-added service for fixed-line customers.
But AWC has rejected the request. Monthly fees were a main source of revenue, and the firm has instead proposed a new package with lower airtime fees. Current charges for PCT service are three baht for the first two minutes, and 1.50 baht for ...
