Rinspeed's first tuner project was a 1979 Volkswagen Golf, which got some nice chrome trim around the doors in a style that would have made any Bangkok cabdriver proud. In the ensuing 25 years its Porsche, BMW and Mercedes tuning projects-the bread-and-butter of the company-have met mostly with success, while its concepts have ranged from the award-winning (AutoWeek's Best Concept at Geneva) 1997 Mono-Ego to the not-so-successful 1995 Viper Valeno ("...they perpetuated crimes on a limited-edition automobile...'') and 1999 X-Dreamer MUV ("The worst single concept at the show'').
So when you look at it in that context, the Rinspeed Chopster is not all that bad. If you like it, you can even buy one.
