Oct. 4--When it comes to remodeling, Home Depot became a retail icon by training us to do it ourselves. Now the home improvement giant wants to do it for us.

From carpet to water heaters and even roofing, the Atlanta-based retailer has its sights on installing the products its sells in its sprawling warehouse stores. Home Depot has steadily beefed up its service side, in part because its customers are getting older.
