Online Shrimp Auctions Chalk Up 20 Million Baht in New Transactions.
Oct. 3--Since the recent launch of its online shrimp auctions, transactions worth 20 million baht have taken place between shrimp farmers, processors and brokers, according to FoodMarketExchange.com.
Response had been favourable to the world's first direct selling of shrimp by farmers to processors via the Internet, the business-to-business e-marketplace operator said in a statement.
"We hope this service will benefit all parties in the agricultural and food export sectors. Our aim is to get 10 to 15 processing plants and 100-150 shrimp ponds to participate in our shrimp auctions by the end of the year," said Simon Chan, president of Biz Dimension Co Ltd, the operator of FoodMarketExchange.com.
"We expect transactions to reach 100-150 million baht by the end of the year."
