Oct. 3--Major Cineplex Co has announced plans to open two new complexes in Bangkok next year as part of a strategy to become the country's largest chain in 2005 with 100 screens.
Each complex will cost more than one billion baht and will house a bowling alley and restaurants promoting the concept of an entertainment city for the family.
The company declined to disclose the locations, but it has said that both would be stand-alone venues, one with 11 screens and the other with eight.
The two complexes are scheduled to open in the second half of next year.
"Although people say the economy is in recession and global uncertainty and war threatens, I believe the outlook for the movie business remains quite positive. In the aftermath of the US terrorist attacks, our cinemas' ticket bookings have been strong," said Vicha Poolvaraluk, the company's managing director.
