Oct. 11--The defense distribution depot at Tinker Air Force Base is about to start in a "public-private competition," the Defense Logistics Agency said Wednesday.
The Tinker distribution depot is one of seven depots involved in the competition, according to the agency. The depot employs 687 civilians. It functions as a source for most consumable items needed at the base and elsewhere.
The competition process studies cost differences among two approaches: providing distribution services in-house at the depot by the current government work force, or under contract by a private-sector company.
