Perry, Okla., Residents Optimistic after Layoffs at Charles Machine Works.

Oct. 8--PERRY, Okla.-- Residents were trying to stay positive Thursday as 250 workers at Perry's largest employer lost their jobs.

Charles Machine Works Inc., the company that makes Ditch Witch products, laid off employees for the third time in about five months, citing a downturn in the construction industry as the reason.

Rocky Rhines, a Perry resident, said one of his friends who worked at the company for 19 years was among the 250.

"Now they're looking at starting a whole brand new life again, he said.
