Oct. 16--The Capital Region's high-speed Internet battlefield got more crowded Monday, when both America Online and EarthLink launched their own services over Time Warner Cable's network.
While broadband access has been available in several flavors to local subscribers, only one option -- Road Runner -- was on Time Warner.
But when AOL completed its merger with Time Warner earlier this year, the companies agreed to open their cable pipes to other competition. EarthLink, an Atlanta-based Internet provider with 4.9 million subscribers, was the first company to sign on. Other companies likely will follow.
