Oct. 27--Thousands of Columbia students had to find another way to school today after a St. Louis-area union representing school bus drivers from Francis Howell and Fort Zumwalt school districts set up pickets at the First Student offices in Columbia.
Attendance at most elementary schools was normal, although two schools the Tribune contacted reported that the lack of buses had a noticeable impact.
Shepard Boulevard Elementary School reported that as many as 25 students might have missed class because of the strike. Parkade Elementary School reported 20 absences, with 15 possibly attributable to the lack of buses.
