Celebrities have always bitched about being hounded by paparazzi. And traditionally, those complaints have been met with zero sympathy from the public. Today, however, stars' outrage over aggressive photographers may actually be justified. Why? Thanks to the intensified competition among celeb-obsessed publications such as Us Weekly, Star, In Touch, and even People, the stakes for snagging exclusive snapshots have never been so high. One-of-a-kind pictures (a coveted celebrity wedding snap, for example) can fetch a million bucks, driving paparazzi to go to great lengths to get them. As a result, Hollywood A-listers have been taking serious measures to protect what little privacy they have left.

VIP Shopping Sprees

Many privacy-craving celebs have managed to get stores to close their doors to the general pubic while they peruse the racks. Beyonce shopped in peace for more than two hours at the ultrachic Harvey Nichols department store in Edinburgh, purchasing sunglasses and La Perla lingerie. Gwyneth has been known to do the same thing while shopping in London at Topshop.

Hiring a Body Double

Whether it's for security measures or to prank the paparazzi, some stars employ decoys to go out in their place. At last year's Sundance Film Festival, a faux Britney Spears kept fans and reporters occupied while the real pop princess disappeared. Eminem's body double, named Particles, has been misidentified as the Real Slim Shady in numerous published paparazzi shots.
