Nov. 6--United Broadcasting Corporation Plc (UBC), along with marketers and advertisers, is again stepping up the campaign to allow advertising on pay-television.
Allowing advertising would not only help loss-ridden UBC to stay in business, but would provide economic and social benefits to the public, according to advertising industry veteran Seri Wongmontha.
UBC reported a net loss last year of 2.1 billion baht and has accumulated losses of 4.5 billion baht.
"Having advertisements means that consumers have the right to choose [among the products advertised]," Dr Seri said yesterday at an Advertising Association of Thailand seminar.
"At the same time, manufacturers could reduce their costs since they would gain economies of scale with the help of advertising. This would help the overall economy.
"Without advertising, UBC would eventually be out of business, which means consumers would not gain information to enhance their knowledge."
