Nov. 6--The private sector wants the government to press for special treatment for developing countries in world trade, at talks in Qatar this month.
The global trade negotiations known as the World Trade Organisation Ministerial Conferences will be held in Doha, the capital, from Friday to next Tuesday.
Developed countries should be required to extend technical co-operation and transfer technology to poorer developing economies, said Ajva Taulananda, the president of Board of Trade of Thailand.
Mr Ajva represents the joint WTO Committee of the board of trade, the Federation of Thai Industries and the Thai Bankers Association.
The private sector wanted a specific agreement on special and differential treatment, in particular how to increase the competitiveness of developing countries, he said.
"Developing countries should also have the right to call for suitable conditions rather than wait for an offer from developed countries," he said.
