Nov. 7--For the Assavabhokhin family, property may be in the blood. After all, Anant Assavabhokhin is a giant in the industry with leading real estate firm Land and Houses Plc. Now his younger brother Anuphong is making his own inroads, through Asian Property Development.

Mr Anuphong, president of the relative newcomer, credits his mother's advice about the potential for property buying and selling as his inspiration for entering the business.

While the real estate industry is still undergoing upheaval following the collapse of the property boom in the mid-1990s, the company has proved quite successful at carving out its own niche.

"It's not a business secret. You can't fight directly with the large developers. Instead, you find your niche market, where you can develop quality projects to serve the needs of customers," Mr Anuphong said.

Asian Property Development today is involved in two business areas -- property development and production of construction materials.

In the property area, the firm has focused largely on townhouse projects. In construction materials, the firm produces pre-cast concrete products, used for its own development projects and also sold in the market.
