Nov. 30--Washington Mutual, one of the nation's fastest growing banks, announced Thursday that it will create 450 new positions at a Dime Bancorp service center it is acquiring in Albion.
The bank plans to make Albion the home of its third national customer service center, a move that will double employment at the office within several years. Washington Mutual has similar customer service centers in Chatsworth, Calif., and Canyon Park, Wash.
The Seattle-based savings and loan, the nation's largest residential mortgage lender, will acquire Manhattan-based Dime in January for $5.2 billion. Merger details announced Thursday include closing Dime facilities in Uniondale and Green Acres, N.Y.
