Nov. 28--With traffic increasingly choking Boston's roads, city and transit officials yesterday announced separate plans to offer "car-sharing" services for residents seeking a viable alternative to owning a vehicle.
A coalition of city councilors led by Michael Ross will offer legislation today that would require large real estate developments and all city-owned parking garages to include parking for short-term rental cars like those offered by Zipcar Inc. of Cambridge.
Made aware of the city's plans, Michael Mulhern, who took over last week as acting general manager of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, announced that the T will soon donate parking spaces at four MBTA garages for Zipcar vehicles.
