Dec. 13--Mondial Assistance, the world's largest motoring assistance and travel insurance group, has entered Thailand by taking a controlling stake in Auto Assist Co, a provider of emergency breakdown and towing services.
The move was part of the group's expansion in the Asia-Pacific region, which included the recent takeover of Worldcare Assist, the biggest auto assistance company in Australia, said Alain Demissy, the managing director of the France-based group.
Mondial bought a 90 percent stake in Auto Assist, which has 10 million baht in registered capital.
Auto Assist was formed last year by Hans-Peter Neil and Steve Watkins.
Mr Neil, a German engineer, was instrumental in founding the CarWorld Club, Thailand's first emergency roadside assistance company.
Mr Watkins, an Australian marketing graduate, was then the marketing director of CarWorld Club.
