$7 Million Gift Propels New York College's Biotechnology Initiative.

Dec. 13--Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute President Shirley Ann Jackson sees a $14 million research initiative announced Tuesday as propelling the Capital Region to national and world prominence in the fields of regenerative medicine and tissue engineering.

Speaking at the nearly completed train station in Rensselaer, Jackson said the initiative -- funded with a $7 million gift from Troy native Morris "Marty" Silverman and matched by RPI -- will have four newly endowed distinguished faculty in the field of biotechnology as well as several junior faculty members and graduate students.
