Dec. 8--EXCISE COLLECTIONS B5BN ABOVE TARGET: The Excise Department collected taxes totalling 33.9 billion baht in October and November, five billion baht above its target for the first two months of the fiscal year. Revenue was also 7.4 billion baht higher than in the same period last year.
October tax receipts of 17.4 billion baht were 34.7 percent higher than in the same month last year, officials said yesterday. Taxes from petroleum products accounted for six billion baht, tobacco 3.4 billion and beer 2.7 billion baht.
The November total of 16.5 billion baht rose 21.8 percent year-on-year. Petroleum product taxes totalled 5.3 billion baht, beer taxes 2.8 billion, and taxes on automobiles 2.8 billion baht.
Meanwhile, the Revenue Department said it collected 37.7 billion baht in taxes in November, 0.33 percent above its target and 1.87 percent higher than in November last year.
Its total tax collections in the first two months of fiscal 2001 were 72.8 billion baht, 2.01 percent above the target and 4.2 percent higher than the year before.
IMF OFFICIALS VISIT FOR FOLLOW-UP TALKS: International Monetary Fund officials met yesterday with Finance Minister Somkid Jatusripitak for what he called normal consultations.
Atchana Waiquamdee, senior director of the economic policy group of the Bank of Thailand, said the operations of the Thai Asset Management Corp were among the topics discussed.
