Dec. 6--Star Cruises of Singapore plans to make its 675-million-baht terminal at Laem Chabang deep-sea port the best fly-cruise operation in the world and a regional hub for holiday ships.
The world's third-largest operator of luxury cruise ships expects to officially open its terminal, designed like a traditional Thai hall, next month. Construction of the airport-style building is 80 percent complete.
"Given bright potential in the cruise business and geographical advantages, we decided to add Thailand to our regional hub in Singapore," said Chutima Topanyaruang, the general manager of Star Cruises Thailand.
Located on 80 rai at terminal A1, the jetty can handle vessels of up to 120,000 gross tons and the building can accommodate 1,500 passengers.
"The terminal is initially to serve the group's cruising lines including Star Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line. But it's also open for other international operators," Ms Chutima said.
It will also provide a roll-on, roll-off service with three vessels expected to call at the port each month.
