Dec. 3--Citizens Bank of Pennsylvania took control of 345 branches of Mellon Bank over the weekend, removing the name of a well-known Pennsylvania family from branches across the region.

Citizens Financial Group Inc., a unit of Royal Bank of Scotland based in Providence, R.I., completed the transaction with Mellon at midnight Friday. The $2 billion deal included Pittsburgh-based Mellon's 650,000 consumer and small-business accounts, including $13.4 billion in deposits, $6.1 billion in loans, and branches in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.

When it announced the deal July 17, Citizens said that it would offer jobs to all of the 4,135 Mellon employees across the state. Only a few senior managers decided not to become Citizens' employees, bank officials said.
