Dec. 20--DEVELOPER TO BUILD EXTRA-LARGE CHESS BOARD, PIECES: A Charlotte developer is building a giant chessboard for playing "life-size" games in an uptown mini-park across from Seventh Street Station.
Daniel Levine of Levine Properties said experiencing such parks on a backpacking trip through Europe during his college days inspired him to do the project at 209 E. Seventh St.
Chess players will be able to step onto a game board of 64 large stone squares and move plastic or wooden kings, queens, rooks, knights, bishops and pawns up to 48 inches tall.
