SAN JOSE, Calif. _ For the most part, the teams are fraternal twins.

Michigan State lost four starters from last season, as did Stanford.

Michigan State's offense is based on discipline and precision, not free-wheeling acrobatics. So is Stanford's.

Both coaches, Michigan State's Tom Izzo and Stanford's Mike Montgomery, are close friends with former MSU boss Jud Heathcote.

Both teams are ranked in the top 25.

Both have been among the most successful in the country the past three seasons.
