Thai Bankers Relish Brokerage Role.

Jan. 8--Allowing commercial banks to offer full underwriting and securities brokerage services would help strengthen the overall financial system, bank executives say.
But analysts caution that banks would have to clearly educate depositors about the potential risks in investing in debt or equity instruments.
Finance Minister Somkid Jatusripitak said over the weekend that commercial banks should be allowed to offer brokerage and underwriting services in the future.
Expanding opportunities for banks would significantly help efforts to broaden the country's investor base, he said, given the banks large branch ...
