Jan. 7--The 24-year-old son of a poor Nong Khai farming family, now studying in Hawaii, has assumed the responsibility of navigating an Asean Internet discussion group designed to breathe some new life into issues facing the Thai and regional tourism industry.
Boontham Namhongsa, studying for a degree in communications and public relations at the Hawaii Pacific University in Honolulu, stepped in as the first moderator of Yahoo!'s Asean Tourism Online Forum on Christmas Day.
After an initial chatter of boring Happy New Year messages and companies leaping to advertise products and services, Mr Boontham has gently but firmly prodded the contributors toward focusing on some of the more meaty challenges facing the region's top foreign exchange-earning industry.
