Thai Subway Operator Says Siemens' Bid Would Save Over One Billion Baht.

Jan. 5--Bangkok Metro Co Ltd (BMCL) says it will save more than one billion baht by awarding a contract to supply subway trains to Germany-based Siemens instead of Alstom of France.

Pricing was among the factors that enabled Siemens to win the contract to supply the first subway system for the capital, said Pornpimol Chirtchoochai, a financial director at BMCL.

According to a source close to the negotiations, who asked not to be named, Alstom stood firm on its offer at 19 billion baht for the contract, while Siemens had submitted a quote nearly two billion baht lower.
