Jan. 4--Last week's column identified two funding models for e-commerce in Thailand: commission-based and flat-rate. I argued that the failure of e-commerce in Thailand to date had been due partly to a lack of shared responsibility, in particular the responsibility of the online shop owners who are supposed to know their products best.
The commission-based model, in which the service provider collects a percentage of sales revenue, can give rise to a lack of commitment by merchants. I support the flat-rate model that charges a fixed amount to provide shop owners with an online presence.
