Jan. 4--New South Properties of the Carolinas has launched a $35 million housing subdivision on 28 acres near the entrance to the Highland Creek golf course community in northeast Charlotte.

Prosperity Ridge, under way at Prosperity Church and Ridge roads, will include 87 houses and 137 townhomes.

Partner Bart Hopper said New South Properties was attracted to the area by its healthy job growth. New York-based TIAA-CREF, for example is developing a 140-acre office campus that eventually could employ as many as 9,000 people at nearby University Research Park.
