Jan. 3--Six of the country's seven listed electronics companies bled red ink in 2001 in the wake of a cyclical industry downturn. Only Delta Electronics (Thailand) Plc reported a profit. What did it do right?
"In-depth research and development," says Anusorn Muttaraid, executive director of the country's biggest electronics group, which has continued brisk expansion in defiance of industry trends.
The company is on track to record net profits of about four billion baht on sales of 30 billion for 2001, similar to its results for 2000. Its nine-month net profit to Sept 30 was 3,015 million baht, an increase of 4 percent from the same period a year earlier; but profit for the third quarter was down by 70 percent year-on-year.
