Jan. 3--While banks are fiercely battling each other in front-line services, their back offices are cutting deals to reduce costs.
Pramote Chalamporn, first senior vice-president of Thai Farmers Bank, said that this year commercial banks would probably enter joint ventures in supporting services.
However, the Bank of Thailand would need to amend its regulations to allow the ventures.
Currently, companies providing supporting services are allowed only to serve their respective parent banks and subsidiaries.
