Jan. 3--Rhein Interests of Charlotte has purchased the last undeveloped tract in Highland Creek for a planned $225 million development of 1,205 homes.
The land is on the eastern boundary of the nearly 2,000-acre golf course community off Ridge Road between Interstates 77 and 85 northeast of uptown Charlotte.
Slightly more than 100 of the 527 acres lie in Mecklenburg County, and the remainder are in Cabarrus County.
Rhein Interests of Charlotte paid about $11 million for the acreage -- the development company's biggest land purchase in the Carolinas, said company President Jim Medall.
