VANCOUVER, B.C. -- Canadian physicians who use topiramate for diabetic neuropathy report that 64% of their patients are "very much" improved by the treatment and another 27% are "minimally" improved, according to a small survey.

The survey contradicts what has been found in clinical trials, Peiway Hwang, Pharm.D., of Janssen-Ortho Inc., Toronto, said in a poster presentation at the annual meeting of the American Pain Society. In only one of the four earlier trials conducted with topiramate did the anticonvulsant reduce pain. …
