Feb. 1--Thai shares closed up 0.12 percent yesterday in brisk trade, with an early market rally fizzling out in the afternoon on reports of a market investigation into brokers' trading practices.
The Stock Exchange of Thailand index closed at 340.82 points, up 0.42, in trade worth 13.29 billion baht. The most active issues were finance stocks, down 1.06 percent, banks, off 1.6 percent and property, up 0.22 percent.
In the morning session, the SET index jumped as high as 345 points, following a region-wide rally stoked by the US Federal Reserve's decision on Wednesday to keep short-term interest rates unchanged.
Investors cheered the decision as a sign of recovery for the US economy.
