Feb. 1--Loxley Pacific plans to introduce a mobile-phone service in North Korea in July, with a target of signing up 5,000 subscribers in the first two months.
Loxley Pacific, a subsidiary of Loxley Plc, holds a licence from the Pyongyang government to operate cellular services in the Rajin Sonbong Free Economic Trade Zone through joint venture Northeast Asia Telephone and Telecommunications (Neat&T).
Neat&T is 70 percent owned by Loxley Pacific and 30 percent by state-owned Korean Post and Telecommunications. The venture has installed a network costing 130 million baht.
