Feb. 5--Nissan says it supports the revised Board of Investment rules intended to attract international auto companies, saying that critics who claimed the measures were designed to accommodate certain automakers had missed the point.
In reality, the revised rules did not represent a major shift in the government's policy, said Phornthep Phornprapha, president of Siam Motors and Nissan Sales Co. "It's no big deal in this regard," he said.
He said that a major automaker intended to turn its Samut Prakan plant into a pickup truck production base for exports, and to focus on making cars at its factory in Chachoengsao.
