Feb. 4--The Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Co-operatives (BAAC) is preparing to extend non-farm micro-credit to people in 20 provinces, complementing the government's People's Bank project.

The 20 branches selected are in provinces where the Government Saving Bank has not yet begun operating its People's Bank programme that grants credit of up to 15,000 baht per applicant.

The BAAC has 100 million baht to extend to its clients, who will be charged the same interest rate as at the People's Bank, 1 percent per month. However, the BAAC offers loans of up to 100,000 baht with a maximum term of 24 months and more stringent credit appraisal.
