Feb. 4--Locally grown temperate fruit will become more plentiful at lower prices in the domestic market under plans to encourage growers to plant strains that have higher yields.
The fruit is grown in the North, where peaches were first introduced decades ago for hilltribe people, who migrated from China, to grow instead of opium.
However, as the peaches were small and yields low, the Royal Project began research and development of new varieties in 1969, introducing the first in 1970.
