Feb. 26--ANTHONY, Kan.--Waste Connections may have finally found a Kansas home for Wichita's trash.
After four other counties said no, the Harper County Commission voted 3-0 on Monday to approve a zoning change that clears the way for a landfill to be built.
The landfill -- which could take 1 billion pounds of trash a year -- could be open within 18 months, said Robert Sharp, the County Commission chairman.
Landfill opponents, who are attempting to remove the commissioners from office, say they will go to court to challenge the zoning decision.
