Mar. 4--The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) plans to develop new independent power (IPP) plants or buy power from abroad as possible options to develop local power supplies after 2010.
Egat governor Vitaya Kotcharak said the authority estimated that power supply requirements for local consumption at the end of 2016 would total 48,271 megawatts.
But under the original electricity generation plan, the total power generation capacity is set at only 29,971 MW at the end of 2009.
Egat is now seeking another 18,300 MW between 2010 and 2016 from new IPPs or by purchases from abroad.
