Mar. 1--Washington is considering waiving duties on canned tuna, garments and footwear exported from Andean countries, a move that would create an unfair trade environment and deal a heavy blow to Thailand, according to Boontipa Simaskul, director-general of the Business Economics Department.
In exchange for co-operation in suppressing drugs, the US has granted tariff privileges for a number of products from the Andean Community, consisting of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela.
But this year, canned tuna, garments and footwear would be added to the list.
