Thailand Prime Minister Tells Communications Enterprises to Merge.
Mar. 1--Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra yesterday directed both the Telephone Organisation of Thailand and the Communications Authority of Thailand to merge before listing on the stock market by the end of the year.
Pongpol Adireksarn, a deputy prime minister, said the two state enterprises would be required to complete a merger plan within one month.
But executives of both the TOT and the CAT said many obstacles and differences would have to be sorted out before the merger could take place.
Mr Thaksin yesterday chaired a meeting of executives of both agencies and other key ministries to discuss telecoms liberalisation plans.
