Feb. 27--A bill that would add two members to the State Corporation Commission is dead for now.
Yesterday, at the request of the bill's sponsor, the legislation was carried over by the House Commerce and Labor Committee until the 2003 General Assembly session. The bill had already passed the state Senate.
Sen. Thomas K. Norment Jr., R-James City, the bill's sponsor, said afterward that he decided to delay the bill to give the SCC an opportunity to make reforms recommended by consultants. If the commission responds with real reform this year, he would be inclined not to continue with the bill, Norment said.
