Feb. 27--A day after proposing new welfare guidelines, President Bush today will laud a Charlotte welfare-to-work program that has drawn national attention for putting people in jobs.
Bush will have two meetings this morning at the Charlotte Chamber with former welfare recipients, employers and others involved in Mecklenburg County's Work First program.
Later he'll head to the nearby Charlotte Convention Center for a luncheon fund-raiser expected to raise $1 million for Republican U.S. Senate candidate Elizabeth Dole, U.S. Rep. Robin Hayes of Concord and the state GOP. The president is scheduled to spend a total of three hours in Charlotte.
