It shows how the neocons hijacked U.S. foreign policy, shaping the doctrine of unipolarity that defined the wars on terror and in Iraq, while "cast[ing] a shadow" over America's civil liberties. The critique "authoritarianism overseas generates authoritarianism at home" is all the more powerful coming from two respected conservative thinkers.
